Köme (Walnut Sucuk): The Walnut Classic of Gaziantep Cuisine
Köme is a beloved traditional sweet of Gaziantep cuisine in which walnut kernels meet a sweet, thick fruit coating. The outside is slightly pliable and sweet, while the inside is full of the rich, crunchy texture of walnuts. It is also popularly known as walnut sucuk; when sliced, the walnut kernels lined up inside are clearly visible in the cross-section.
In Gaziantep, köme is a familiar part of winter provisions and holiday treats. Tufan Organik's 250 g köme comes in a pack small enough to finish in one go, yet generous enough to share. Cut into thin rounds with a sharp knife, it is easy to serve both on a treat platter and at teatime.
Serving Suggestions
- Slice into thin rounds and offer alongside Turkish coffee.
- Add to a cheese and nut platter as a sweet balancing element.
- On long winter evenings, serve in small portions with hot tea.
