Buckwheat

Tufan Organik Buckwheat, from the Grains and Flours range: a natural food with roots in Gürün/Sivas.

Buckwheat: A Versatile Seed with Unroasted Kernels

Although its name includes wheat, buckwheat is not actually a cereal but the seed of a plant with small, triangular kernels. Because this product is unroasted, its color is a light, greenish beige, and its flavor is softer and lightly earthy compared with the roasted version. When cooked, the kernels stay separate and offer a pleasant bite.

It can easily be used in place of bulgur or rice in dishes such as pilafs, salads and soups. Those who want a more pronounced aroma can stir the kernels in a dry pan for a few minutes before cooking. Part of the grain range in the Tufan Organik catalog, buckwheat is a good starting point for anyone who wants to add a different grain to their kitchen.

Serving Suggestions

  • Sauté the kernels with onion and carrot, then cook them in hot water for a buckwheat pilaf with vegetables.
  • Mix cooked buckwheat with pomegranate, parsley and olive oil for a refreshing salad.
  • At breakfast, add cooked kernels to the same bowl as yogurt, honey and seasonal fruit.
